The Kribi project which will cost some 282 billion francs Cfa, is intended for the construction of a port in Grand Batanga some 10 kilometres south of the town.

This gigantic infrastructure will receive maritime traffic especially ships that need deep waters and also serve as the port for containers and transhipment, with equipment adapted to its needs. This port will optimize the country’s port capacity and boost its industrialisation efforts. Indeed, permits have already been given for the exploration of some of the country’s sub soil resources (iron, bauxite, nickel, cobalt). The port itself will be made up of port infrastructures and a container handling terminal. Moreover, The Kribi port will require that many other attendant projects be implemented and that a road be build to link the port to the national and international road networks as part of the implementation of the Central African road master plan which calls for a road that goes from Kribi to Kisangani, in the DRC through Ouesso, in the Republic of Congo.

The Cameroonian stock exchange, known as the Douala Stock Exchange (DSX), has just quoted another company , the Société africaine forestière et agricole du Cameroun (SAFACAM).

With la SAFACAM the Stock Exchange now has two quoted companies. The other company, which until now was the only firm quoted since the Exchange started operations on 30 June 2006 is la Société des eaux minérale du Cameroun (SEMC), owned by the French group Castel.With a registered capital of 2 billion FCFA owned by the Cameroonian State and the Bollore Group,la SAFACAM, has decided to devote 20 % of this capital to this transaction. This will lead to some 82 800 shares.

In disposing of part of the SAFACAM, shares in its portfolio, the initiator of this partial public offering has clearly indicated its desire to experiment the sale of shares belonging to the State through public tenders to promote savings within the framework of the national financial market, according to the Director General of the DSX.

Management of the national stock exchange has also revealed that other companies may soon announce their participation in the Stock Exchange before 30 June, a date that will correspond to the 2nd anniversary of the start of quotation
